If you’re travelling 4 or more times a week buy a ‘Season Ticket’. If you’re travelling after 09-30am or anytime at weekends buy an annual railcard for a 34% discount

    That’s pretty cheap.

The cheapest way to travel by train is to get a railcard. There are a few available; 16-25 (previously called the Young Person’s), over 60 and family railcards. You have to pay to get the card, but then you save a third off journeys after 10am.

The other way is to buy two single tickets, which can work out a lot cheaper. I got a single from London to Manchester for £7 (inc my railcard discount).

Also, buy tickets well in advance.

www.thetrainline.com – although they now charge a £1 booking fee. Boo hiss.
